The AMC MCQ CAT (Computer Adaptive Test) is fundamentally different from traditional fixed-form exams. Understanding how it works can significantly improve your preparation strategy.

What is a CAT? A Computer Adaptive Test adjusts the difficulty of questions based on your responses. If you answer correctly, the next question may be slightly harder. If you answer incorrectly, it may be slightly easier. This continues until the algorithm has enough data to estimate your ability level with confidence.

How Scoring Works Your score is not simply the number of correct answers. The CAT algorithm considers the difficulty of the questions you answered correctly. Getting a hard question right contributes more to your score than getting an easy one right.

Key Implications for Preparation - Every question matters, even early ones - You cannot skip questions or go back - Time management is critical — you have about 1.4 minutes per question - The exam ends after 150 questions or when time runs out
